any alternative therapies we’ve tried? Homeopathic, Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Shiatsu, Herbal etc etc whether it be for MS or any other condition. What does anyone think??? Take care Luv Scatcat73
Hi Scatcat I think all those alternative treatments you have mentioned have their place and can be beneficial - however I think we have to remember that none have any ’scientific’ proven effects. Having said that, most of them have the ’feelgood factor’ and that in itself can be worthwhile. cheers Blondie
Hello Blondie I wasn’t aware that this community was only for structured scientific issues. I thought it was to discuss any aspect of our lives associated directly and indirectly with MS. I thought it would be a light-hearted approach to starting a discussion as I tried the Betaferon topic to get an insight into the side-effects, feelings etc of taking it as I have only just started this and was having problems. What do you suggest as a good topic?? Luv Scatcat73
ScatCat, I am interested in finding out if alternative therapies would help my condition too but I appreciate Blondie’s advice that they will not cure me and that I should not go blowing all my money on them. She is actually a nurse according to her profile so maybe she knows a bit more than we do? I think we should be thanking her for coming on here and helping us rather than snapping at her the way you have done. She never said we could only discuss scientifically proven things, it’s just that that’s her area of expertise. You did say "does anyone have any views?", you did not specify that they had to be in agreement with you (I assume you have found alternative therapies worthwhile). Also why should the nurse throw up things for us to discuss? It’s us that have MS and need the help, not her. So be nicer please. This forum should help people and not be about sarcastic remarks.
Hello minime, It wasn’t being sarcastic, I was merely trying to start a discussion that was on a lighter note than the Betaferon topic to get things started and to lead onto different discussions etc etc. We all know there isn’t a cure nor expect to be cured and it is hard to come to terms with. I agree that Blondie has the experience and it is us with MS but I was hoping the discussion would carry on for longer than one reply about the therapies not being proven! I thought there may have been someone who has tried something and it was beneficial etc and which we could learn more from. Sorry if it did come across as being sarcastic but it was NOT meant that way at all. Luv Scatcat73
I have found the hyper-baric oxygen chamber beneficial. I seem to walk better after a session. I know it has no clout with the medical profession but I know lots of people who find it useful for things like fatigue and bladder problems. I haven’t tried any other alternative therapies but did wonder about reflexology as i have heard varying comments about it. does anyone have any experience of this? Sqeezebox
How long do you feel the effects for? A bloke once recommended it for fatigue. But on the otherhand a friend of mine felt very claustrophobic so it put me off a little!! lol I once had a play about with something I read about reflexology, it worked! I have a lot of pain in the eye, head, neck and shoulder area that really stems from the eye (numerous attacks of optic neuritis). It said to press on the fleshy bit between the 2nd and 3rd toes for 5 secs then release and repeat and so on. The pain disappeared from my eye and neck totally and left a dull ache in my shoulder. Another friend said she would like to practice Reiki on me (she’s studying) has anyone tried this? Squeezebox, If you try the Reflexology and it is of no benefit at least you’ve had your feet pampered!!! Take care luv Scatcat73
