Taking a History

Despite all the technological advances of modern medicine, the most important part of the neurologist’s examination is the patient history. He or she will want to know exactly how your illness started, and details of all your past and current symptoms. Even apparently trivial details can prove useful, so give as full an account as you can and do not feel you are wasting the doctor’s time. Your past medical history is also important, as are details of any other medical problems you are currently experiencing and any medication you take. You will also be asked whether anyone in your family has any medical disorders.
