Is MS Painful?

It can be. Research indicates that pain occurs in 30-65% of people with MS at some time. Painful symptoms, which usually come and go, include neuralgia of the face, inflammation of the optic nerve, leg spasms and, in advanced MS, chronic burning sensations in the extremities and other pains. Many people find their pain can be controlled effectively with drugs or other treatments, but some do not.
