Will I end up in a Wheelchair?
One of the major questions asked by people newly diagnosed by MS is ‘will I become disabled?’ By this they generally mean ‘will I end up in a wheelchair?’ The answer is that about 15% of those who develop the disease will eventually need to use a wheelchair on a full-time basis. On the other hand, 45% will suffer only mild effects and will lead more or less normal lives. In between these two groups are the 40% or so who experience an intermediate degree of disability, often following many years of relatively little disruption.
