Other Therapies
A large number of ‘alternative’ therapies for dealing with MS have sprung up to fill the gap left by conventional medicine. Each has its devotees, some of whom report dramatic improvements in their health. Less is heard about those who try a treatment and find it does nothing for them. Some alternative therapies may be beneficial, some are probably ineffective but harmless, and a few may do more harm than good.
It may be tempting to ‘try anything’, but don’t let desperation overcome common sense. Before considering a new therapy or parting with any money, seek objective advice from your doctor or one of the MS patient organisations. This section looks at the better-known alternative therapies and assesses what is known about their effectiveness.
