Replacing Mercury Fillings
Claims that MS is caused or made worse by mercury poisoning from dental fillings has not been proven. The link made by some people between mercury and MS arises from the fact that the symptoms of mercury poisoning are neurological, and can look like some of the symptoms of MS. But this could be coincidental.
As with any ‘alternative’ treatment, there are reports of dramatic health improvements in people with MS who have all their mercury-based (amalgam) fillings removed. There are also people whose MS has got worse. Having your fillings removed is expensive and unpleasant, and despite research there is no evidence that removal has any effect on MS. Some tests claiming to measure the amount of mercury in the body are unreliable or invalid.
