Visual Disturbances
Optic neuritis – inflammation of one of the optic nerves – is often the first symptom of MS. It causes pain at the back of the eye, and/or blurred or double vision (diplopia). Occasionally there may be temporary blindness in one eye.
Nystagmus – involuntary, jerky movements of the eyes – is a troubling symptom for some people, especially in the more advanced stages of MS.
